The Village has categorized high-priority development sites into targeted market areas for economic development efforts since 2012. Today, there are five retail target areas that are described in greater detail in the marketing flyers linked below. The Retail and Development Profile gives a high-level overview of these areas, including an up-to-date retail gap analysis for 1-mile and 3-mile distance bands for each market area.

Rakow-Road-Area

2015 Retail Study by Melaniphy & Associates, Inc.

In July 2015, retail experts at Melaniphy & Associates, Inc. completed a retail market feasibility analysis of three sites at the intersection of Route 31 and Rakow Road. Much of the information presented in this study, and the conclusions made, are still relevant today. The most impactful findings include the determination that certain retail categories are supported along the corridor, including:

  • Automotive and Gasoline Filling Stations
  • General Merchandise
  • Food
  • Eating and Drinking Establishments
  • Furniture
  • Drug Stores
  • Miscellaneous Retail
Hotel-Market-Study

2014 Hotel Study by HMI, Inc.

Hospitality experts at Hospitality Marketers International Inc. (HMI) completed a hospitality market study for the Village of Lake in the Hills in late 2014. The study investigated the market potential of hotels on three sites located within the Village. Recommendations included the siting of 60-room, mid-priced and limited-service hotel within Lake in the Hills.
