Nixle Emergency Messaging System
You can be the first to know what is happening in your community with emergency alerts and messages sent directly to you from your official police department news source, the Lake in the Hills Police Department.
We will send out texts and emails to alert you on potential risks, traffic incidents/road closures, severe weather, criminal activity, police activity in the area, missing persons, community events, emergency information, and more.
Text messaging services are character limited. We suggest using both text and email as well as following us on our social media. In the event further/follow up or more detailed information be necessary to provide, you will find details on social media and police department press releases (if issued) here.
There are THREE Easy Ways to Register
- Text the LITH zip code (60156) to 888777
- Visit the Nixle website. Create an account by using your email and choosing a password. Enter a cell phone number where you would like to receive messages. Click "I accept. Sign Me Up!"
- Use the sign-up form at the bottom of this page
- Once you are registered, you can text STOP to 888777 to stop receiving alerts and messages at any time.
Additional Registration Information
If you do not live in LITH but travel or visit here, shop here or have family members in town, after you confirm, you can reply with up to five (5) other zip codes from which you might want to receive alerts. . What affects us still may affect you if you are in the area, such as traffic crashes that will slow down your commute.
Customize Your Messages
Visit the Nixle website to customize your messaging options. You can select if you want to receive only urgent emergency alerts, or if you would like advisories and community messages about events as well. You can also search for and add other area agencies that utilize Nixle as well.
When Visiting/Attending LITH Festivals or Events
If you are planning to visit LITH and attend one of our many festivals or events (like the Rockin’ Rotary Ribfest, National Night Out, Summer Sunset Fest, one of the many 5ks, etc), you can sign up for Nixle Emergency Messaging when visiting.
This is an excellent way for festival and event attendees to receive emergency communication while at the event of potential safety issues (i.e. weather or criminal activity) that may affect their visit.

Anonymous Crime Tipping through Nixle
If it is an emergency, call 911 immediately! You can be anonymous on 911. The Lake in the Hills Police Department wants to ensure that all the neighborhoods in the village are safe for our citizens. While we work to do this through proactive patrol and police presence, we sometimes need help. As a citizen of our community you often see things that we don't, and you know your neighborhood best. We encourage our community to feel comfortable and safe to reach out to us to report criminal or suspicious activity that they observe. Should you see something, say something. We implore all of our citizens to help us help make Lake in the Hills as safe as we can.
How to Submit an Anonymous Crime Tip
- Option 1: Simply text TIP LITHPD to 888777. You will receive a confirmation message to let you know you are connected to LITH PD and that your tip was received. This is also the perfect time to sign up for Nixle emergency alerts. Text the Lake in the Hills zip code, 60156 to 888777 to opt-in.
- Option 2: Click on the anonymous tip module below. It will take you to a webpage that will allow you to submit your tip online anonymously.
Please be aware that any tips provided are anonymous and cannot be replied to unless you provide your contact information.
Should your tip require immediate attention, please contact the dispatch center by calling 9-1-1 for emergencies or 847-658-5676 and request be be anonymous as tips are received in real time and there may be a delay.
