Village of Lake in the Hills

Lake in the Hills has enjoyed great economic development success in recent years and is poised to embrace the changing economic landscape over the coming decade. The Village’s economic success and identity are closely related. Our identity is an important aspect of our quality of life and our identity serves as the foundation for our future growth.
One part of our identity comes from our location. Lake in Hills is part of the rapidly growing northwestern suburbs of Chicago, and is just 30 minutes from O’Hare International Airport. The Village also has its own airport, the Lake in the Hills 3CK Airport, which is a designated FAA reliever for O’Hare. Lake in the Hills has direct access to State Highway 47 and State Highway 31, providing convenient access to the surrounding region and US Interstate 90. Major commercial corridors in the area include Algonquin Road and North Randall Road - which has recently been improved to accommodate higher traffic counts and provide better visibility for frontage properties. Additionally, the commuter rail to the City of Chicago and surrounding suburbs is located just 7 miles from Village Hall. With all of these locational benefits our community is well-positioned to serve families, young professionals, business owners, and entrepreneurs alike.
The Village’s identity also stems from its historic past and picturesque setting. The original portion of Lake in the Hills formed around Woods Creek Lake, consisting primarily of summer homes that soon became year-round residences. Subsequent years saw a build-out of leafy subdivisions to the west of the lake-front homes, especially in the boom years through the 1990s and early-2000s. Some of these new homes were built around the Boulder Ridge Golf Course and Country Club, providing residents with a golf-course lifestyle with high-end amenities. Other recreational and natural amenities that have developed through the years include the Village's more than 30 parks, Exner Marsh, the Lake in the Hills Fen Recreation Area, and direct access to the regional Prairie Trail recreational path.
Whether it’s starting a family, starting a business, or just enjoying a vibrant and active community, Lake in the Hills offers both a great lifestyle and a good business climate. Commercial, office and manufacturing tenant spaces, buildings, and buildable sites are all readily available. Village officials and staff are happy to assist you in picking your home or business location while offering a high level of service and personal attention.
