Vandalism is a perennial problem that our Public Works crews work diligently to correct, costing the Village resources that would be better spent on other viable services. Staff routinely respond to occurrences of defacement, damage to concession stands (including breaking into and stealing the contents), breaking picnic tables, and graffiti clean-up, just to name a few.

The Lake in the Hills Police Department works these incidents with quick communication derived from reports that are generated after the vandalism has occurred. The Police then direct investigative patrols to the area as soon as possible to catch the offenders.

What to do if you spot vandalism in progress:

• DO NOT approach or attempt to apprehend the vandal.
• Get a good description of the vandal(s) and their vehicle(s).
• Call 911 to report vandalism in progress.
