The Lake in the Hills Police Cadet Unit #1096 is comprised of an award-winning team. Public Safety Cadets are a nationwide program which provides young men and women ages 14 through 20 with the opportunity to serve their communities by providing knowledge, skills, and practical experiences through education and training delivered police officer 'Mentors'.  This training is meant to build character, physical fitness and respect for the rule of law and human and civil rights.

The Cadet Unit receives instruction, as well as hands-on experience from officers in various areas of leadership during meetings on select Thursdays throughout the month. The Unit also learns through observance during ride alongs with the patrol division. During the year, the Unit assists the police department by volunteering at many community events and assist with traffic control. The program promotes personal growth through character development, respect for the rule of law, physical fitness, good citizenship and patriotism. Members wear a police-style uniform bearing the department’s patch and Public Safety Cadet patch.

Our Cadets aspire to participate and place in National Conference. The conference unites Cadet Unit teams from across the country to compete in a variety of different scenarios including: hostage negotiation, felony suspect arrest, building search, tactical emergency medical care, and more.  During the year, our Cadets also participate in local and/or state competitions.

The Cadet Unit meets on select Thursdays from 6:00pm - 9:00pm at the Irv Floress Safety Education Center, 1109 Crystal Lake Road.
