Don't wait, save time by using our online reporting service for non-emergencies

Online Citizen Reporting Website ImageAs an agency, we’re always seeking innovative ways to improve service delivery for our residents. We are proud to introduce a new, online reporting service for non-emergency crimes. Our goal is to make reporting crime an easier task. This system was developed to make the process easier and more convenient for residents of the Village of Lake in the Hills.

All online reports will be processed through our secure portal powered by Frontline Public Safety Solutions. If the portal looks familiar, that’s because it is! It’s our same system currently used for overnight parking, vacation house watch requests, and bicycle registration – now expanded to also include online citizen reporting.

The information submitted using the portal is safely and securely transmitted to us, and is available 24 hours a day.

Types of incidents that can be reported online include:

Lost Property, excluding firearms
Criminal Damage to Property (under $300)
Theft (under $500)
Credit Card Fraud
Identity Theft
Gas Drive-Off
Criminal Defacement (under $300)
Report for Insurance

In some circumstances, it would not be appropriate to use the online reporting system because the nature of the call merits an officer's response. Here are a few instances in which you should NOT use the online reporting system:

  • Emergencies
  • Motor vehicle accidents
  • Hit-and-run involving a vehicle
  • Burglary to a motor vehicle
  • Any in-progress incident
  • Assault or battery
  • Incidents occurring outside the Village of Lake in the Hills
  • Incidents that have already been documented by the Lake in the Hills Police Department (Note: To add information to an existing report, locate the original report number and notify the officer who took the initial report or our non-emergency line at 847-658-5676)

Our officers are glad to assist you and provide exceptional service each and every day, whether it's online, in-person, or via phone.

Get Started

A valid phone number and email address are required. All reports are reviewed by police; if there is a need for more info or further investigation is required, you'll be contacted. Remember, for your safety do not use this system to report in-progress or emergency incidents. Call 9-1-1.  Remember, filing a false police report is a crime.
