Village of Lake in the Hills
Home MenuIce Skating Rink
Embrace the wintertime weather and take a spin on Woods Creek Lake! Residents may now ice skate on the lake at Indian Trail Beach, located at 228 Indian Trail, weather permitting.
The ice skating rink is marked off, so users can identify the safe zone. Anywhere outside of this zone is considered dangerous at any time. Staff checks the ice thickness regularly to determine if the safe for skating.
The Village uses a flag system at Indian Trail Beach to denote current ice conditions. A green flag will be displayed when the ice is safe and open for skating. A red flag will be displayed when the ice is unsafe, and the rink is closed. The staff has posted signage to communicate the skating rink rules.
Ice Skating Rink Conditions
Green = Rink is open.
Red = Rink is closed. Ice is unsafe and too thin to skate.

The lake floor under the ice is four feet deep out to 70' from the beach. Depending on safe access for ice thickness testing, skating starts on or around December 15 and closes on February 28. Staff floods the rink as needed to provide a safe surface. Indian Trail Beach will now be the designated skating area within the Village. The rinks formerly located at Sunset Park and Stoneybrook Park have been relocated to Indian Trail Beach.
