Regulations Regarding Fire Pits, Grills and Kettles for Residential Properties:
PLEASE NOTE:
The Lake in the Hills Municipal Code also regulates “bonfires and recreational fires” (like those held at a social gathering). This type of burning, held at a public space gathering event, must follow the regulations established in the Municipal Code. See the following requirements below:
- A permit from the Police Department is required. Click here to apply.
- Burning must be within a metal ring.
- Burning only allowed between 5 p.m. and midnight.
- Only logs may be burned.
- Must have a fire extinguisher or water source present.
- Burning must be at minimum 30 feet away from any buildings or structures.
- The maximum pile diameter is 3 feet, and the maximum height of combustible materials (firewood, logs, and sticks only) is 2 feet.
