Lake Use /Boat Tags Now on Sale

One of the biggest benefits of living in Lake in the Hills is the natural beauty of our lakes nestled on the east side, minutes from the hustle and bustle of the major roadways.  The lakes provide the opportunity for many recreational activities including: boating, swimming, fishing, and etc.

Those interested in taking advantage of this resource need only to sign up for a lake use permit.  The permit allows all household members access to swim or boat on the lakes. If you're someone who loves the idea of using the lake, but are sure you wouldn't have the opportunity to use it year round, you always have the option of paying the daily use fee.  If you'd prefer to catch fish while floating gently on the water, or you simply want to get some exercise rowing, residents may purchase a boat use permit.  The boat use permit is an additional expense after first purchasing the lake use permit.  Boat use permits are required if you are planning to do any boating activities and require proof of residency along with current IDNR boat registration.  For boaters who would like to utilize the Woods Creek Lake for one day can pay a $15 daily boat launch fee.  If order to protect the lakes, motor boats are prohibited.

Volunteer Opportunities

Over the course of each year, the Parks & Recreation Department utilizes volunteers to help our events run smoothly.  We always need people at our race events (Run thru the Hills in April, the LITH Triathlon in June, Sunset 5K in September) to help register the athletes, give out goodie bags, or direct runners on the course.

Park Clean-up Day, held in April each year, would be the perfect way for groups or individuals to enjoy the spring weather while giving a much-needed spring face lift to a local park.

Our Adopt-A-Park Program is great for groups looking for a longer-term project.  Groups can choose to take care of one of the many parks in Lake in the Hills, keeping it clean and litter-free for a year.

Other local events that need people to help out are the annual Summer Sunset Festival in September, the Festival of Trees and Santa Ride-In held in December, and our Family Fun Night held in March.

If you would like more information about volunteer opportunities that are available, please contact the Parks & Recreation Department at 847-960-7460.
