La Trattoria selected for Larsen Business Award

At the August 17, 2010 meeting, the Lake in the Hills’ Business Relations Committee (BRC) selected La Trattoria Italian Restaurant as the next Gordon Larsen Business Achievement Award winner. The restaurant, located at 9541 Ackman Road, was previously located in another suburb, but was relocated to Lake in the Hills in February 2009 by its owners, who were also Lake in the Hills residents.

The Committee unanimously voted for La Trattoria, as they felt the restaurant captured the essence of the message the Committee has been promoting over the past year – Shop Lake in the Hills. Committee Member Laura Jozwiak stated on the nomination, “The benefit is not only to their growing and loyal customers that are hooked on their freshly made Italian food, but our community also benefits by the additional sales tax and employment opportunities.”

Preschool Age Programs

After a community-wide survey, the Lake in the Hills Parks & Recreation Department has incorporated several, new preschool-age programs based on suggestions and requests made by participants.

In addition to expanding enrollment in their regular Playschool Academy preschool program, their accredited preschool staff has developed classes targeting the intellectual growth of preschoolers between 3 and 6 years old. These exciting, new classes stimulate learning through the use of crafts, stories, songs, group/individual projects, and social interaction.

Whether parents are looking to introduce their child to preschool or enhance their child’s preschool experience, there is a program that will fit both schedule and budget. For more information about specific programs now available, please contact the Parks & Recreation Department at 847-960-7460 or check out the 2010 Fall Brochure.

Mosquito Information

Mosquitoes, with a disease transmission potential, lay their eggs in artificial containers or tree holes that can be found around your home.  There are many ways to help minimize the mosquito populations in our region.  The first and best defense against these pests is to eliminate their breeding sites:

  1. Properly discard old tires and empty water found in any water-holding container outdoors (i.e. rain catchers, barrels, etc.)

  2. Empty wading pools at least once a week and store indoors or up-side-down when not in use.

  3. Make sure door and window screens are tight-fitting and in good repair.

  4. Cover trash containers to keep rain water out.

  5. Change water in bird baths twice a week.

  6. Pet dishes stored outside need to be emptied daily.

  7. Keep roof gutters free of leaves and other debris.

  8. Fill in tree rot holes and hollow stumps with sand or tree tar (contact your local nursery for information.

Also, try to avoid the outside during peak feeding times (just before and after dusk and just before dawn.  Wear light colored, tightly woven clothing and keep trouser legs tucked into boots or socks.  Use mosquito netting to protect young infants or when sleeping outdoors in an unscreened structure.  Apply mosquito repellent to clothes and always follow label directions and wash your hands before eating after applying repellent.
